The hit or miss of New Adult novels

Since I'm a new college student I really love the New Adult genre. Its so relevant, and easy for me to connect to most of the characters, which makes them really enjoyable to read. Especially because they are mostly quick romance novels.

BUT

It seems New Adult novels are either a hit or miss. Over winter break I read about 8 different New Adult novels, some of them were well written and planned out. They were fun to read and I would recommend them to all my friends at school. Then the other novels that had a writing style that was geared toward 10 years olds. (not to bash to middle grade novels because some of them are outstanding and well written). Basically what I want to know is why some of these New Adult novels feel like they are just tossed on the shelf without a second thought.

I hate giving a bad review to novels that an author has worked so hard on and put out there for everyone to judge, but I would like to know what the publishing company was thinking when they published some of these New Adult novels. THESE ARE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS. We like to read well thought out and well written stories.

Taking Chances (Taking Chances, #1)Taking Chances by Molly McAdams is one of those novels. (Now, I do have to say many reviewers on goodreads liked this story, so make your own opinions, I just would not recommend it). While this story was well published - I didn't notice any typos, misspelled words or any errors in the grammar- but I also had to skim the last half of the novels because I could not get through it. Each event only lasted a page or two, the author never elaborated to explained visual imagery of the story. Plus the plot was so unrealistic, and the characters had no development.

On the other hand, there's many New Adult novels that I loved. While they were all easy reads and just a comedic romance novels, these are some well written books that I actually enjoyed reading. Such as Isn't She Lovely by Lauren Layne, I couldn't put this one down. I bought it to read on the airplane on my trip to Paris but this one didn't even make it on the plane. I finished it days before. It was witty, fun, and romantic. I recommended it to every one I can.

17883712Some other New Adult novels that I really enjoyed are All the Pretty Lies by M. Leighton (this one was deeper then I expected), any novel by Cora Carmack, and Wait for You by Jennifer Armentrout. I'll try and post reviews on all the books mentioned above and all the other New Adult novels I have read soon.

How do you feel about this new Genre? Do you agree they are hit or misses? What are some of your favorites?

AND FINALLY - when will there be some sci-fi or fantasy novels. If these do exist PLEASE let me know!

What Does the Fox Say...the book?

The popular Norwegian song has millions of views on YouTube, and is in the Top 100 on iTunes. The weird, funny, and catchy song has been heard all over the world and now you can buy it as a book.

In December "What Does the Fox Say" comes out as a children's book. I'm curious to what is actually in the book and will probably take a trip to Barnes and Nobles to check it out.

It's really smart to make a children's book out of the hit song. I'm sure many people will be finding it as a gag gift under their tree this Christmas, or giving it to kids who enjoyed the song. Which is a smart move by Simon and Schuster.

But, I just found it pretty funny and thought I would share this with you.

Confession of a Literary Shopaholic

Every here someone mention how every girl is a shopaholic? While this might be a stereotype, for me it's also VERY true. I own more books, shoes, clothes, and make-up and purses then any person should. Online shopping is one of my favorites because you don't even have to leave the house.

I thought I should turn my addiction into a fun weekly post! I'm also starting this at a good time to use for Christmas ideas if any of you are looking for book related Christmas gifts. It's hard to buy an avid reader a book, because there's a good chance they've already read it. However, I'm always finding cute book related items that I can't wait to share with you!

I'm going to start with some AWESOME jewelry that came out today. I'm sure you've heard of Out-of-Print clothing by now. If not they make cute shirts, totes, phones cases and now JEWELRY! The best part of these products? They are all related to classic novels.

What I love about these I how wearable they are. A lot of book related jewelry is really tacky, or gaudy.  These necklaces are actually made out of brass with 14k gold plating!

A perfect gift for anyone who loves these classic novels. My favorites are Scout and Boo, Down the Rabbit Hole, and Slaughter House Five.

Which are you're favorites?

In My Mailbox

This is for the late night readers, mostly because I forgot it was Sunday. College seems to do that, I completely forget what day it is (mostly during the weekends).  Does this happen to anyone else?

Anyway, here's the books I bought this week...

In Hardcover:

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

On my Kindle:

Being Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram

(already read this one, I've always wanted to read this one)

More than Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram

(The sequel)

Trust in Me by J. Lynn

Companion novel to Wait for You, which I absolutely LOVED.

The Giving Tree (the song)

While I was studding in the library today I made a new radio to listen to, a Plain White T's radio. Then in middle of reading a book from class I heard some lyrics that sounded extremely familiar even though I know I never heard the song before. Then I played back the song to listen to it again to try to figure it out.

I notice the title is 'The Giving Tree' which was one of my favorite children's book growing up.

Then I realize that the song revolves around the story. Since I missed band book week, and The Giving Tree is a commonly banned book (I know, people are weird), I thought I would share this song with you. And just in case you love this book as much as I do.
